A "bouncing" alternative R&B, hip hop and electro-funk song, the song speaks about a passive-aggressive relationship. Upon its release, "We Need a Resolution" received acclaim from most music critics. A moderate commercial success, it peaked at number 59 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Internationally, it reached the top 20 in the United Kingdom.
