"Step by Step" is a song recorded by Whitney Houston, originally written and recorded by Scottish singer Annie Lennox. Lennox's version appeared as the B-side to her 1992 single "Precious". Whitney Houston released a reworked R&B/pop cover of the song in 1996 on the soundtrack to the film "The Preacher's Wife". Houston's version features new lyrics in place of Lennox's original verses and omits portions of the bridge, while Lennox provides backing vocals. The music video for Houston's version was directed by Paul Hunter.
