The Sonatina, which is in one movement in the neo-classical style of Hindemith, to whom it pays homage, was originally written for oboe (or flute) and clarinet. It is in a very tightly argued sonata-form with the three main themes generating their own contrapuntal material, especially in the development section which alternates between stormy and lyrical passages.
