Mariah Carey’s version of the famous Christmas carol first composed in 1818 by Austrian church organist Franz Xaver Gruber, set as the opening track on her first Christmas album and fourth overall, "Merry Christmas" (1994). Carey’s version omits the second and fourth verses of the initial version.
