The song describes Mariah’s withering relationship with her older sister as well as her marriage to music producer Tommy Mottola. She also sings and writes of the betrayal that her supposed friends and family dealt to her. For example, ex-collaborator Walter Afanasieff (who Mariah famously worked with on songs such as “Hero”, “One Sweet Day” and “My All”) ended his working-relationship with Mariah after she divorced the head of Sony Music Tommy Mottola, as he remained loyal to Mottola.
