Written and produced by Carey and Dre and Vidal, "Lullaby" is the sequel to the 1998 single The Roof featured in the Butterfly album, as stated in the lyrics: "So here we are again all by ourselves so familiar you know that it actually almost feels like déjà vu of that night on the roof" It is rumoured to be about Carey's ex-boyfriend Derek Jeter.
