proto kino is an electronic/acoustic music duo, formed in 2012 in London, England, and made up of Steve James (vocals, songwriter, piano, guitar) and Chris Doney (songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist). Their songs grow out of electronic/acoustic sampling. Are sometimes sparse, sometimes not. The band’s songs are composed by Chris and Steve, although they regularly collaborate with Beth Perry (vocals, cello, flute) and Andrew Lodge (drums). Chris also records as part of Weston Green and used to be a member of 3 seconds to fall. Steve's other projects past and present include; Semble, Birdbones and the Union Sound Set.
