hellenkeller was a music group formed in 1994 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Members included Futcher (bass, turntables, samplers, production) Brendan Ostrander (drums, percussion, computers, production), Darren Phillips (Keyboards, samplers), Richard Walters (drums, percussion, bass), and Ryan Robbins (vocalizations, didgeridoo, percussion). Additional musicians included Rosco Blur (bass clarinet & soprano sax), Jeremy Holmes (upright bass), Mark Hasslebach (trumpet, noises) Jim Vulcano (bass), DJ Wax (turntables) Craig Burdess (tablas) Tired of early 90's alternative guitar music and inspired by experimental, electronic, and sample-based music of the day, hk was at first a studio-based project with a revolving door of guest musicians, but a 5 member line up soon solidified. HK's debut cd Demonstration was released in 1997 to critical acclaim. Recording for their follow-up, titled Last Days of Stereo, was mostly finished by 2001 and was never officially released but is now available for download on hellenkeller's website and on last.fm.
