Zentrifugal was a German hip hop duo from Bremen. The group consisted of Bastian Böttcher, who wrote and performed the lyrics, and Loris Negro, who did the music. Zentrifugal has produced two albums: Poesiealbum (1996) and Tat oder Wahrheit (1999). Most of the songs are about ordinary life, presumably from Böttcher's point of view, written with a high level of wordplay, alliteration, assonance, and rhyming; often a particular syllable or sequence of phonemes will be repeated numerous times in a short space. Zentrifugal was one of the forerunners of German rap poetry. The group has won poetry slam prizes and was invited to participate in the Goethe Institut's Deutsch-Nuyorican-Poetry-Festival in the early 1990s.
