Artist
Xu Pingxin (Chinese: 徐平心) is a Yangqin player. Born in North-east China (known at the time as Manchuria) in 1961, he started public performances at the age of seven. Taught by his father to play the Yang Qin (hammered dulcimer), he had to overcome great odds in being accepted into the Central Conservatoire of Music (China) in 1974, due to his family not being part of the communist party. He later went on to the China Conservatoire of Music where he graduated with a BA degree in 1983. He stayed to direct the school orchestra and teach. He has been giving concerts worldwide since then as one of the premier dulcimer musicians of the world.
