Wolff Cyclop (* 1476/1477 in Zwickau ; † after 1526) was a German humanist, physician and neo-Latin poet. The surname is actually Kandelgiesser and occurs once in 1502 in the register of the University of Wittenberg , since 1507 Latinized as Cantarifusoris . Guolfus Cyclopius was the humanist name used since about 1509. In his German writings, the author called himself Wolff Cyclop . Wolfgang (Wolff) Kandelgiesser grew up in Zwickau and received lessons from Laurentius Bärensprung. According to his own statements, he traveled to several countries in Central and Eastern Europe as a teenager. In 1494 he enrolled at the University of Leipzig and then moved to the newly founded University of Wittenberg. There he was matriculated on August 18, 1502. He earned the academic degree of bachelor and on February 2, 1504 that of master . From 1508 to 1510 he returned to Zwickau and headed the Latin school there. In 1511 he began studying medicine in Wittenberg. Cyclop later stated to be a doctor of medicine; However, the place and date of his doctorate are not documented. Cyclops had been the duke's personal physician since 1519Henry of Brunswick-Lüneburg and his family; he also practiced in the city of Lüneburg. In the spring of 1524, Cyclops got into a conflict with the guardian of the Franciscan monastery in Celle. It was about Martin Luther's interpretation of the Bible. This prompted Cyclop to leave Lüneburg and move to Magdeburg . There he acquired citizenship and bought a house.
