White Shag is a high energy, female fronted, MC5 style stoner rock band from Detroit, Michigan. These cats started making magic a couple years ago and currently parade in the depths of the Detroit metro area rockin' out. Jorge Cortez grew up in Rochester Hills, Michigan and started playing piano when he was 4. When he was 11, he went on a trip with his mom and dad to Paraguay where his cousin taught him how to play “Patience” on guitar. After that, Jorge always had a guitar in his hands. In high school, Jorge took up the alto sax and worked at the Renaissance Festival playing the mizmar. Some of his biggest influences are Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana. Jorge played in bands such as You, Electric Spine, The Go!, and The Brothers Cortez. He is also obsessed with mustaches. Laura grew up in Dayton, Ohio and started singing when she was 6. At 10, she started playing the trumpet. When she was 18, she decided to travel to Chile, where her mom is from, to study music. There, she played in bands such as Jupiter Jack, Los Pitchers, Los Gatos Negros and Clique while pursuing her degree in Music Composition and taking classical guitar lessons. Laura’s biggest influences are Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Axl Rose, Maynard-James Keenan, Robert Plant, Joan Jett, Jesse Hughes and Violeta Parra.
