J Scott Rakozy

J Scott Rakozy has been playing the piano for 20 years, starting at the age of three. After 7 years of lessons at Viterbo College in La Crosse, Wisconsin, he quit to start learning what he wanted. Within those seven years of learning though, he was introduced to the world of video games with the N64. Games such as Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario 64, and the Legend of Zelda helped him develop his ear training to literally listen to any piece and play it instantly. Over the course of the following years of high school he performed with professionals and world renown artists, giving him a taste of what the music industry was like. He began studying under professional jazz pianist, Greg Theisen and learning the fundamentals of film scoring from film composer, Brent Michael Davids during that time as well which helped him develop his talents in composition. He studied Jazz Piano Performance at BYU-Idaho for a year from 2006 – 2007 before leaving to do a 2 year missionary service in Romania. Returning back in Jan. of 2010 he continued composing. Now he does freelance composing for an association firm in downtown Chicago and also creates video game music for a indie video game company based out of Madison, WI. He currently resides in Provo, UT and is continuing his studies at BYU-Provo in the Media Music program.
