White Cheese (1975-1985) found it’s roots from Lou Reed and The Vu, Bowie, Iggy & Stooges, Frank Zappa, Genesis, Roy Wood, Steel Pulse, The Who, The Police, The Damned. etc. It was a Turkish semi-pro rock band existed until the end of 1984. Although some studio work was done never had the opportunity to release any albums. In 1975 Sinan Kurtul and Murat Dunbay, two high school buddies formed WC. As it was initially intended to be a school band and the name of the jr high was Moran College they first wanted to name the band ‘moran’s morons’ but the head mistress also their English teacher outright rejected it. Murat and Sinan took guitar lessons for about two months in 1974 from a bass player, a customs agent, who was moonlighting. After having been taught the chords to ‘alta grassia’ and had to play it at each lesson the two quit the lessons and started venturing out, making their own chords. Murat later decided to pursue playing bass gtr, influenced a great deal by Jack Bruce, Johnny Enwistle, John Cale. Also their classmate Selami Sevinc was the first drummer of the band. Gokhan from the same class also played bass or guitar with the band sometimes and offered his house for rehearsals. The first performance of WC was at a high school bands competition sponsored by Milliyet newspaper in 1976.
