You might say that von Baron Music began many years ago when von Baron was growing up in the Midwestern United States. Classical, Jazz, and New Age music could always be heard drifting from the speakers of this New Age music composer's family stereos. As a teenager, von Baron listened hungrily to his mother’s cassette tapes of Andreas Vollenweider the New Age harpist and his father’s Jazz records by Herbie Hancock, Bob James, and Sergio Mendez. von Baron started playing drums a little later than most, at the age of fifteen but had already been beating on pots and pans and break dancing for several years. Rhythm was in his blood as we now see many years later with his breakthrough New Age music on steroids. von Baron studied drums, percussion and music at both the University of Missouri at Kansas City, Missouri and then at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. He studied Classical, Jazz, and Brazilian music extensively, three styles of music that form the foundation for his New Age music today. von Baron completed his undergraduate education in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Washington in Seattle. In 1997 he traveled to Brazil and performed with renowned Brazilian singer/songwriter Eduardo Mendonça.
