Brothers Andy and Richard Vellacott have always been passionate about progressive rock music. Richard recalls “we always loved listening to bands like Genesis and Yes and would save all our pocket money to buy every CD we could find!” Although these days he is more often found behind a bank of keyboards and pedals, Richard, born in 1974, is a classically trained pianist who started playing at the age of six. For his part, Andy, 18 months younger than Richard, has played the drums for as long as he can remember and is a regular session and live musician. With 20:20 hindsight, the fit seems obvious, but it wasn’t until Andy and Richard went to a Prog Rock concert in 2007 that they were inspired to start jamming together. “From our very first session we had some great music and couldn’t wait for our next opportunity to get together,” says Richard, “we were both on each others’ wavelength from the very beginning”. Andy picks up the story, “we decided to design and build our own music studio so we could jam together whenever we wanted to. It took us a few weeks to finish, but has worked brilliantly – and, most importantly, it’s still standing!” In 2009, the brothers formed their own progressive rock band, Vivid Glimpse and soon found they had written enough material for an album.
