As most great things do, Velvet Heir began by accident in Houston, when impromptu jam sessions between Grant Martin and Andrew Sanchez turned into a collection of home-cooked recordings. Gypsy Richmond wanted in, but she had moved to New Orleans. The only logical thing to do was to find a bassist and continue to work across the distance via the Internet. Will Story stepped up to the job and the quartet was ready for action in 2009. Velvet Heir received their first dose of live performance at New Orleans's famous Frenchmen street. The band has continued to straddle Houston and The Crescent City for shows. Releasing their self-titled debut EP in November, Velvet Heir showcased raw, female vocals intertwined with "an infectious rhythm section... swamped in southern grooves." The EP is a six-track tale of desire, debauchery, and life on the run. The debut release is in homage to the outlaw.
