Sundown Circus is a three man band based in The Hague (The Netherlands). It was formed by guitar virtuoso Sijmen de Geus and bass monster Rai Kempees. After testing as many as 12 different drummers Sundown Circus found it’s final form with the arrival of drummer Bastiaan Bredius in 2005. The music of the band is heavily influenced by bands and artists such as Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Jeff Buckley Band. But rock-pioneers like Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin are also considered to be great influences in Sundown Circus’s music. The foundation of the music is laid down by a tightknit rhythm section, with rhythms alternating between sometimes spherical, sometimes very heavy, but actually just about everything in between as well. All this to create a foundation for Sijmen to add the colouring with his beautiful and sometimes bizar guitarparts. In this background Sijmen can tell his stories, using his characteristic voice. Sundown Circus likes to take you away and emerge you in music. A band that stands for dreamy, intense and at times heavy music, trying to never play a song the same way twice.
