Tscheljabinsk65 was founded in late 1999 originally as a noisy drum & bass project, but dramatically changed its sound to a darker, ambient project with both neo-folk and industrial elements. The first demo of Tscheljabinsk65 was finished in March of 2000, abandoned were the heavy laden drum and bass tracks, in place was a more industrial edge of noisy scapes with a sterile atmosphere. In April 2001, a three track demo CD-R of Indutrielle Zertrümmerung Eines Schädels was released, later to be replaced by a four track version in July. After the release of Indutrielle Zertrümmerung Eines Schädels the band moved into a different direction of embracing the neo-folk genre. Dark neo-folk was combined with ambient soundscapes to create the second demo, Nature Rising Like Lazarus, released in January 2002. A third demo-album, The Demons of Iron was released in May of 2002, evenly divided ambient landscapes and dark neo-folk. Thematically, the album deals with human existence in our modern society. Two months later, a limited edition MCD called Titan Woods/Ancient Forest was released. Limited to 200 copies, the single contains folk elements of acoustic guitar and flutes, but incorporates certain spirituality to it. Another two months later (September 2002), Tscheljabinsk65 appeared alongside another band, Xotox, on a 3” split CD done by a small do-it-yourself label Neuf Noir.
