Tresenlesen is a cabaret duo comprising Frank Goosen and Jochen Malmsheimer. Established in 1992 in Bochum, the name originates from their initial performances in pubs. Malmsheimer credits his wife as the originator of the name. Although they parted ways in 2000, Goosen and Malmsheimer reunited amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Formation and Early Years In 1992, Jochen Malmsheimer, then training to be a bookseller, began reading works by Irish writer Flann O'Brien at Paddy's Irish Pub in Bochum. Encouraged by the pub owner, Malmsheimer turned this into a series and brought in Goosen, who was still a student at the time. Their inaugural joint reading occurred on May 31, 1992, coinciding with Goosen's birthday. Initially, their readings consisted of texts from various authors, organized around specific themes like science fiction, Westerns, or alcohol. Malmsheimer stipulated that each text had to meet two criteria: linguistic relevance and humor. In 1997, Tresenlesen made their television debut on the WDR program "Mitternachtsspitzen." Success and Disbandment From 1992 to 2000, Goosen and Malmsheimer performed extensively as a duo, primarily in North Rhine-Westphalia. They won the Audience Award "Beklatscht & Ausgebuht" at the Prix Pantheon in 1997 and the Salzburger Stier in 1998. However, due to differences, they eventually disbanded.
