Tony Colton

Tony Colton was a soul / mod singer from Kent, United Kingdom, whose real name was Anthony George Chalk. He was mainly active in the 1960s. Colton first came to prominence a leader of The Crawdaddies, who were active on the thriving London R& circuit in 1963 and 1964. After forming a writing partnership with Ray Smith he supplied songs to the likes of The Merseybeats, The Riot Squad, Georgie Fame and Dantalion's Chariot, to name but a few. Colton also issued a handful of mid-1960s solo singles, the most succesful and memorable one probably being 'I've Laid Some Down In My Time' b/w 'Run Pony Rider' (1966). Following his solo attempts Colton went on to form Poet & The One Band (who would evolve into Heads, Hands & Feet), then started working as a producer for artists such as Shirley Bassett, Wilson Pickett, Frankie Valli and Rory Gallagher's power trio Taste.
