Artist
The beat group The Shake Spears arrived in Belgium in December 1964 from Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). They had previously been successful in their own country, playing as the Dynamics. Despite numerous lineup changes between 1965 and 1967, the group was very well received in Belgium, recording numerous hit singles (mostly covers) and releasing an album, The Shake Spears. They also toured Australia, England, Holland, Germany, and France. By 1967, there were no original members of the group left, but The Shake Spears remained popular on the charts and television in Europe. So popular, in fact, that in September 1967, they were approached by an American agency interested in moving the group to the U.S.A. Before the US tour the group moved to Majorca in February 1968 to rehearse for six months and write new material. Unfortunately during this time, their American manager had a heart attack and the tour was postponed indefinitely. The group broke up before making it stateside, though some members continued on as Fynn McCool.
