The Potbelleez are an Australian electronic dance music group formed in Sydney in the early 2000s by Irish-born DJs Dave Goode and Jonny Sonic. Goode and Sonic both moved from Ireland to Australia in the early 2000s and met shortly after arriving in Sydney. Their first performance together took place at Darling Harbour, after which they began performing regularly under the name The Potbelleez. From 2002 to 2004, they organized and performed at a series of boat and beach parties in Sydney under the banner Beats on and off Shore. In 2004, they played at Sydney’s Home nightclub and at the Magnetic Island Full Moon Party. That same year, they hosted Groove Armada’s Ragbull Records launch party, using the proceeds to establish their own production studio. In 2005, The Potbelleez toured internationally as part of the Jim Beam Mix It Up Tour, performing in Shanghai, London, Romania, Limerick, and Moscow. They also appeared at major electronic music events, including Global Gathering and Godskitchen in the United Kingdom. Their early releases included remixes for artists such as Endorphin and Love Tattoo. Their self-titled debut EP featured the tracks “Junkyard” and “Duuurty Dreemz,” which gained club play and television exposure in Australia, including appearances on programs like Big Brother Up Late. “Junkyard” reached number two on the ARIA Club Chart.
