Noel Redding (25 December 1945 β 11 May 2003) was a British rock 'n roll guitarist, best known as the bassist (!) for The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Born in Folkestone, Kent, England, Redding was selected by Chas Chandler to join Hendrix's band in 1966. He left the Experience in 1969, moving on to form Fat Mattress with Neil Landon, Jim Leverton and Eric Dillon. Redding also had a short stint in Los Angeles-based heavy metal outfit, Road, with which band he released one self-titled album in 1972. Redding then moved to Ireland, in 1972, and it was there and then that he formed The Noel Redding Band with Eric Bell from Thin Lizzy, Dave Clark and Les Samson. They did two albums for RCA: Clonakilty Cowboys in 1975 and Blowin' in 1976. After three tours of The Netherlands, two tours of England, one tour of Ireland and a 10-week tour of North American, the band dissolved after a dispute with their management company.
