There are at least two different acts called Bitter Almond. 1. Bitter Almond was a short-lived British pop group of the early 1970s, featuring Trevor Danby, Robin Lodge, Nick Frost, Alan Harley, Dick Errington, Terry Danby and Billy Kite. They released just two singles: 'In the Morning' (1970) and 'Loving Each Other' (1971). 2. Bitter Almond were an obscure but critically acclaimed gothic rock band during the mid 1990s hailing from the Australian capital, Canberra. The band's dark guitar-driven anthems and Blakesque lyrics were hailed by critics as "powerful", "acerbic" and "important" but the band imploded after only three years having played only a handful of short but legendary shows. Singer Colin Gibson and Multi-instumentalist Darren Langlands formed the core of the band which was graced by a number of talented musicians of the 90s including Brett Allen, Cameron Mann and Graham Nicholson. The band's "hits", 'Never Be Me', 'Fixing a Crucifix' and 'Small Town Requiem', were created during a period in 1994 known as the "Ingham-years", when the band were produced by Manchester's Dave Ingham. The band split in 1995 citing "creative differences", although rumours of drugs and alcohol abuse still cloud stories of their time together. 2003's greatest hits collection "Agony, Violet, Velvet and Arsenic" is the only recorded legacy of arguably, one Australia's most influential and important acts.
