Started by the frontmen of two different bands from Chicago, Illinois; The Memphis Rose is a band consisting of Dance Cooper of The Downtown Struts and Ben Hjelmstad of The Geriatrics. Setting out to play real Traditional Country from the 1940's-1950's but with hints of Rock 'n' Roll, Punk, and Soul thrown in. Their debut album, "Ma... Don't Wait Up For Me" was mostly written and entirely recorded in June-July '08 about moving out West and bringing love with them, or in the others case... leaving it behind. They now both live in San Francisco, CA. It should also be noted that Ben Hjelmstad has joined The Downtown Struts on guitar. Update: Ben Hjelmstad is no longer associated with the Memphis Rose. Update 2: RIP Ben Hjelmstad, may you rock out in Heaven. You can buy "Ma... Don't Wait Up For Me" now on iTunes.
