there is more than one band called The Housewives. The Housewives …are “sophisto-pop”, say Artrocker Laurie: Vocals, guitar Nick: Vocals, bass, glockenspiel Chris: Drums John: Keyboards, percussion The Housewives got together in December 2007 to make hip-swerving dancefloor indie. The band mix up indie pop, drum and bass, Latin beat and whatever else they fancy to catchy effect. Their jam-packed live schedule has seen them support Young Knives, Bloc Party and Belle and Sebastian. They’ve played all over the country, including London, Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester and Luton. They’ve also shared a stage with Victorian English Gentlemans Club and Hot Puppies, played an anarchist squat party and had their arses slapped by Mani. Good times… The band’s first single, ‘Getaway’, hit the shops as a limited-edition 7” on Monday, 19th November, selling out in Rough Trade in its first week of release. A riotous combination of punk, house and jaunty guitars, the three tracks picked up good reviews, and made it onto the radio in the UK and Europe. Huzzah! Cult indie label (and launch pad for the Long Blondes) Filthy Little Angels put out two covers by the band late last year. Both ‘Rose Tint My World’, recorded for a Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed compilation, and ‘I Saw Mommy’, a festive track for a Christmas comp, were picked out as highlights by reviewers.
