The Honest Johns all grew up in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, but didn't meet until they all went to the same High School. Exams over, they toured and recorded extensively yet, unbelievably, released nothing save for an EP in 1986 called Tell Me About Your Childhood. Even now, demand remains high for this rare vinyl release featuring the classic Grandfather Of Gold. The band split in the early 90s leaving the vast majority of their recordings unheard. That, could easily have been that. But, thankfully, a decade later, Firestation Records discovered the songs and released the best of them on Meteor 1986/90. As a result, interest increased, so original band members, Mark Lawson (Vocals and Guitar) and Jon Kennedy (Drums) recruited Richard Corbishley on lead guitar and Paul Kennedy on bass. Twenty years on, and The Honest Johns were once again writing and playing music. In 2007, the fabulous Songwriters Of The North was released. Following the release of Songwriters, The Honest Johns digitally released their 2011 album Sundance. "Having just Downloaded Sundance on iTunes, I wanted to say to anyone reading this that this new album has really been worth the wait. Overall, when compared to the excellent Songwriters, the writing, playing and production have all moved up to the next level. The album truely merits a 5 star rating!
