Artist
The Gallant Trees is the work of Joel Stibbard, originating in Hobart, Tasmania, currently residing, recording and performing in Melbourne, Australia after a lengthy stint in Adelaide, South Australia. Stibbard began writing songs aged 14 and has played in such bands as Society's Outcasts, Blodwen and Risemann and with Sal Kimber, usually as a drummer. Stibbard released an album in September 2005 entitled Huon Pine Tree Gap, but has since adopted the name The Gallant Trees for his first EP, 'Birdwatching' released February 2009 on Neika Records, and for his forthcoming album 'A Birds Democracy' to be released late 2009. His music is noted for primarily being inspired by the environment, politics and, most commonly, birds.
