40 Watt Stars were a Tasmanian indie-folk band who existed between 1996 and 1998, releasing one demo tape "40 Watt Stars" and recording another two ("The SAE Session" and "The Consession"). Initially comprising of Andy MacKenzie (vocals and guitar), Sara Libero (vocals and drums), Jen Badenhagen (clarinet), Tracey Hogue (violin and vocals) and Andy Hazel (bass and guitar) the band later added Tim Picone on keyboard, becoming known as 'the Fleetwood Mac of Hobart'. MacKenzie would later form Legends of Motorsport, Libero, who previously played in Sea Scouts and The Stickmen went into theatre, Picone established the Melbourne record label Unstable Ape and played in The Night Terrors, Hazel went on to Tacoma Radar, School Of Emotional Engineering and The Paradise Motel while Hogue moved to Melbourne and performs under the name Girl Friday.
