In the spring of 2004, vocalist and guitarist Michael Roffman alongside lead guitarist Jay Ziegler started writing songs in a shoe box dorm room with a weak Fender tester amp and a couple pads of paper their freshman year at Florida State University. It wasn't much at the time, but it was the beginning of what would become a long, endless musical experience. Two bands and a couple of albums later, the two decided Tallahassee, FL wasn't so much the land of opportunity as it was a sand trap of epic proportions. While Roffman escaped in 2007, Ziegler followed soon after, and in August of 2008 the two continued to write music in Chicago. Enter The Code Kids, a new Midwestern band with a stripped down, garage-rock-alternative sound, similar to that of The Replacements, Dramarama & Hüsker Dü. Adding to this accessible sound are members Kyle Masterson on bass and Brad Cooper on drums. Currently, the four are at work promoting their first EP, We Sell It Back To You When You Beg. With songs "Andrew McCarthy", "Good For You" and "Nobody Knows This Is Somewhere", the band has been exploring various stories both old and new. Only time will tell where all this will lead the quartet, but for now it's just getting started.
