There are multiple bands called The Cats, including... 1. a Dutch pop band, successful in the 1970s 2. a British reggae band 3. a Scottish rock 'n' roll band 4. a Russian dubstep collective (stylized as Th3 Cats) 1. The Cats were a pop band from the Dutch fisherman's town of Volendam, The Netherlands. Active from 1966 to 1985, The Cats may be regarded as the most important band (alongside [artist [BZN) in the so-called Palingsound ('Eel Sound') genre, as the music of Volendam is often referred to. Initially called The Blue Cats, The Cats had five Dutch #1 singles, one platinum and thirteen gold albums in their home country and they were particularly successful in Germany also. Some of their best known singles are 'Lea' (1968), 'One Way Wind' (1971), 'Let's Dance' (1973) and 'Be My Day' (1974). An AOR pop band in the 1960s and early 1970s, the band's sound drifted more towards MOR after the mid-1970s. The band consisted of singers and guitarists, Cees Veerman (1943-2014) and Piet Veerman (1943). Jaap Schilder (1943) played guitar and piano. Bass player was Arnold Mühren (1944). Theo Klouwer (1947-2001) was the drummer. The band's story was marred by internal conflict in later years. Post-1985 some of the core members were no longer on speaking terms. Piet Veerman left the band in the 1980s and had a major Dutch (and German) solo hit with the song 'Sailing Home'. 2. John Ogetti Kpiaye was born in 1948 in the East End of London to an English mother and Nigerian father. H
