Formed as a side project in 1997, founding members Mark Zanandrea, Marc Turner, and Tony Rojas came from local SF bay area zingers such as The Cat Heads, It Thing, X-Tal, Majortity Whip, and The Meices. Mark Z, singer and songwriter, combined his indie songriting with shades of punk and glam. Soon after, Tony was replaced with Tami Gargus(currently with SF great powerpop act The Blank Stares). With the addition of fellow Cat Head and Ex Cat Head Sam Babbitt, The Androgynauts hit the club and house party curcuit in SF. The Androgynauts recorded a full length CD over a long series of sessions at Gorilla Euphonics in Oakland California under the watchfull eye of Bart Thurber.
