Artist
A new Dutch Quartet founded by Frans Vermeerssen and Robert Jan Vermeulen. Vermeulen, who is well known for his playing in mainstrean jazz groups, had been developing a growing interest in the music of Thelonious Monk and Misha Mengelberg. Vermeerssen has long been a mainstay of the improvised music scene but has always had a strong interest in the lively jazz from the 50's and 60's. Together they form the intriguing basis for a new quartet. Vermeulen and Vermeerssen have written a new repertoire and found talented young musicians to play with: Dion Nijland on bass and prize-winning drummer Yonga Sun. "Talking Cows" approach their music in a creative, open environment, which results in fresh music for the mind and heart.
