States of Melba is a nerd rock band based in Western Pennsylvania consisting of Jon Atkins on keyboards, Russ Cogdell on guitar and vocals, Steve Peck on drums, and KDave Trinh on tenor saxophone. The bands claimed that they "sounded closest to" They Might Be Giants and, with songs with content ranging from Valhalla to ghosts on motorcycles, this claim isn't hard to dispute. The band has recorded one album to date entitled "Malevolent Legumes." After being on hiatus for three years, States of Melba reunited for a benefit show on April 20, 2008 in Trafford, PA. This show is thought to be the last act of the band as States of Melba though no official break-up has been announced. Two previously unreleased tracks were played at the 2008 benefit show leading some to believe the band was at work on new material or had a backlog of songs currently unreleased.
