Artist
Start The Hourglass are Ben Curtis (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar), David Everitt (Guitar, Keyboards), Andy Lee (Bass), James Neuenhaus (Guitar) and Tom Woods (Drums, Percussion). They are a hard working progressive metal band from Birmingham, England; formed in early 2007. They have earned a reputation for confounding expectations with their acclaimed live performances, having gigged extensively throughout the midlands, supporting national and international touring artists such as Maybeshewill, Ignominious Incarceration, Cats & Cats & Cats, Between The Screams and Igut and playing headline slots at reputable venues such as Corporation in Sheffield. The band has collaborated with other local artists, and founded their own promotions company devoted to supporting live music and fellow musicians with all proceeds donated to charitable causes or not-for-profit political organisations. They aim to play an honest brand of atmospheric metal that gently soars and brutally crushes in equal measure. Whilst derived from an eclectic mix of influences it is best described as combining the drive and ambience of artists such as Deftones, Tool and Mastodon with the subtlety of artists such as A Perfect Circle and Russian Circles. The band has a strong antipathetic ethos and passion for social justice most evident in the precise satirical savagery of Curtis' lyrics.
