Postcards From Stasis was released early 2010 by Birmingham based Progressive Metal outfit Start The Hourglass. It's a five track EP and a good introduction to the band's style. Its an incredibly dynamic recording, with ambience, groove, atmosphere and fragility easy bedfellows of fury, brutality and anger without a seam in sight. The lyrics are very politically motivated but the vocals are often able to act as another instrument in spite of this due to the complexity of the sentences involved. The work feels like sophisticated, well-placed aggression on one listen and yet its able to strike a more reflective mood on another.
