Pape Seck, Ibra Kasse (founding members and late 50s are all natives of the Cape-Vert region now divided into Dakar & Rufisque. One of West Africa's earlier bands whose success and focus was primarily an imitation of Afro-Cuban beats which dominated the dance scene until the mid-eighties in Senegal. Ibra Kasse, Ibou Kasse, Laba Sossey, and Pape Seck of Africando who also sings lead in "Caramelo" were among the icons of the time and Star Band de Dakar. Most the musicians created or rotated in and out of Star Band, Star Band Number One (off shoot of the former) and Baobab.
