SPY DEVICE operated in Seattle from October 2011 to October 2013. BEN EASHER sang and played guitar, JAKE SMITH played bass and sang backup, and STEVE MALMIN (coincidentally a former member of the WIRETAPS) played drums. They released an album, MINIATURIZED, in 2012. According to Roctober, “SPY DEVICE’s catchy kookiness seems to be a friendly tug of war between driving, early, poppy British punk, à la BUZZCOCKS/STIFF LITTLE FINGERS, and the kind of nerdy, regional New Wave from the early ’80s that every city had.” The East Portland Blog reports, “This band plays poppy punk songs with more hooks than an Alaskan fishing store.
