Spotlights is a US American band from Brooklyn. Members: Vocals, Guitar & Keys: Mario Quintero Vocals & Bass: Sarah Quintero Drums: Chris Enriquez Biography: The band consists of married couple of Mario and Sarah Quintero, both formerly of Sleep Lady, whose 2012 album So Long Lonely Ghost was produced by Aaron Harris of Isis. They're joined by Chris Enriquez on drums. In Spotlights, the Quinteros summon a supreme sound, equally heavy and dreamy. A tar-pit sludge-rock foundation is blanketed by layers of shimmering shoegaze. Their debut full length Tidals was released on Crowquill Records in the spring of 2016 as a follow up to the synth laden, doom-pop EP, Demonstration. Tidals' songs rock hard and memorably, bringing to mind hints of bands, from Failure to My Bloody Valentine to Godflesh to Smashing Pumpkins and beyond. Spotlights occupy the space between a push-and-pull of jarring metallic catharsis and sweeping distortion. Even as either side vies for supremacy, neither extreme ever completely tightens its grip, allowing waves of melodic vocals and expressive sonic sorcery to breathe in the middle. This deft balancing act has enabled the trio—husband-and-wife Mario Quintero [guitar, vocals, keys] and Sarah Quintero [bass, vocals] joined by Chris Enriquez [drums]—to carve a singular lane.
