INTENSE ... AGGRESSIVE ... POWERFUL ... MELODIC These are all words that are used to define the sound of Brisbane band Shades Of Dust. However, one word is barely adequate when describing the combined power of precision riffs and thunderous basslines, anchored by industrial-strength percussion, and given voice by vocals that are both primal and melodic. Shades Of Dust formed in February 2002, by Nate Dust (Guitar), Cain Sims (Drums), and Nev L (Bass), musicians who wanted to create a sound that combined all of their respective influences, while at the same time forging a style much greater than the sum of its parts. This goal was realised in the following summer, when the addition of vocalist Tegh Kalsi provided them with the missing piece of the puzzle. With their debut album 'No Paths To Comfort' Shades Of Dust have created a blend of powerful metal riffs and pointed, lyrically intense vocals spanning the full range of human emotion. From the politically charged “Justification” and “Chafuka”, to the introspective bitterness of “Driven Down”, Shades Of Dust create a soundscape that is modern and heavy, melodic and memorable.
