Though originally intended as a weirdo piano pop detour after the break up of Harvey Danger and a stopgap between Long Winters tours, the Mortal Enemies project soon became a sprawling indulgence, with recording sessions spread out over three years, two states, and at least a dozen wholesale abandonments/reignitions.
