Rusty Santos is a Los Angeles-based producer, engineer, and solo artist. After befriending Dave Portner and Noah Lennox of Animal Collective in New York, Santos produced their 2004 breakthrough album, Sung Tongs, which received widespread critical acclaim. He subsequently produced and remixed a broad range of New York-associated artists, including Ariel Pink, Gang Gang Dance, and TV on the Radio, while co-running the imprint United Acoustic Recordings (UUAR) alongside Thuy Pham and Miho Aoki. In 2004, he released his debut solo album, The Heavens, which was co-produced with Portner. Then followed by Eternity Spans in 2006. Alongside Jesse Lee and Mina Ohashi, Santos founded The Present in 2008, releasing World I See and The Way We Are on Lo Recordings before shifting toward dance-music influences, including Chicago house, juke, and footwork, culminating in collaborations with DJ Rashad. Santos later collaborated with Panda Bear on Buoys, released on Domino Records, and produced Jackie Mendoza's LovHZ EP. His subsequent solo albums include High Reality in 2022 and New Wave In California in 2023, the latter featuring contributions from Panda Bear and Jackie Mendoza. His most recent album, Psycho Horses, was released in February 2026. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
