A culmination of dreams and Santos' life experiences to date, Psycho Horses is the most personal entry in his solo discography yet. The album is built largely from lyrics and melodies recorded into his phone during dreams, and reconstructed in the studio upon waking. Santos has described it as his "antidote to sleepwalking," and a belief that wakefulness, which he defines as true awareness of one's circumstances and of being alive, is not automatic but a decision that must be actively maintained. The album is co-written by Santos and Marcio Rivera of Los Angeles-based duo Texturas, and was produced, mixed, and recorded by Santos.
