Artist
Glaswegian composer and bass trombonist Ross McCrae is fond of wonky riffs, faltering rhythms and wayward melodies. He studied composition at the RSAMD with Tom Wilson, John Maxwell Geddes and David Fennessy, where he won the Dinah Wolfe Memorial Award in 2006. He has written for (among others) the Hebrides Ensemble, Symposia, and the West Lothian Schools Brass Band. He feels fairly self-conscious about writing about himself in the third person. Ross currently plays trombone with Ensemble Thing, The Second Hand Marching Band, How To Swim, The Subfunk Allstars and The Brass Monkeys. Previous bands include Trundlewheel, The Poppadoms and Lesbos Dextros. He is currently working on a solo bass trombone and laptop set.
