Rodney & the Tube Tops were a short-lived American alternative rock band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1996 and disbanded in 1997 The band, which was considered to be more of a side project, included members of Hole, Sonic Youth and White Flag and were eponymously named after frontman, legendary Los Angeles DJ Rodney Bingenheimer. When Eric Erlandson's band Hole were on a reported hiatus, Erlandson (guitar), Bingenheimer (lead vocals), Thurston Moore (guitar), Dave Markey (drums, percussion) and Pat Fear (bass) formed the band and recorded their only single, "I Hate the 90's" at a Seattle-based recording studio in 1996. The single was released a year later in 1997 on the indie label Sympathy for the Record Industry with the b-sides "Tube Tops Forever" and "Cellphone Madness" and was pressed on 7" vinyl. The band disbanded soon afterwards. In 1998, "I Hate the 90's" was featured as part of the soundtrack to It's a Goof and again in 2004, on the Rodney Bingenheimer documentary, Mayor of the Sunset Strip.
