Rockpata is a peruvian andean rock fusion band from Puno, formed in late 2012. Their name merges the english word "Rock" with the quechua term "Pata" (summit or high place), translating to "Rock from the heights", a nod to their hometown on the shores of Lake Titicaca. The band is well-known for blending the raw power of rock music, featuring distorted guitars and heavy percussion, with traditional Altiplano instruments such as zampoñas (panpipes) and quenas (flutes). Their artistic vision includes a stage presence filled with masks and costumes that celebrate Andean cultural identity. Key career milestones include the release of "El Amanecer de un Imperio" (The Dawn of an Empire), the first album by a band from Puno to reach global streaming platforms, and their landmark 2023 performance at the Gran Teatro Nacional del Perú. Recognized by the Ministry of Culture for promoting regional heritage, the group (currently led by drummer Daniel Apaza) remains a staple at national festivals, solidifying their role as leaders in southern Peru's contemporary music scene.
