Plex Plex is a four-piece band from Nashville, TN. Their rare performances featuring frontwoman Amanda X have earned them great notoriety from the press in their region. Singer Amanda X grew up playing piano, guitar and flute, and later was a trained soprano singer. Amanda attended art school in Memphis, where she developed a more androgynous style of singing. Her deep, chesty voice is often hailed as unique and memorable. Guitarist Brennan O'Connor delves heavily into the complex technical nature of the band, as many of their later work involves sampling, programming, and synth work created by O'Connor and drummer Ryan Young, who joined the group in 2004. Bassist Chris Work, O'Connor and Amanda have played together since high school, and previously were known as 81, a darker and more aggressive group, 81 was primarily active in Memphis during the years 1998-2001, where they shared the stage with such beloved Memphis acts as Lucero and Snowglobe. The group is currently working with famed producer Commissioner Gordon, whose credits include Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, Santana, and Damian Marley. To date, they have no official releases, though much of their self-recorded music is circulating on the internet.
