Hailing from Collinsville, Illinois, math-rockers Ring, Cicada went through a number of line-up changes and three now out-of-print EPs before releasing their debut full-length, Good Morning Mr. Good, on 54º40' or Fight! in April of 2003. This album marked the debut of guitarist Christian Powell as a vocalist on three songs, which was a change of pace for the once-instrumental group. This was the group's second stint with vocals, following a brief period when former drummer Chris Carl (later of Cheerleader) rejoined the group as its frontman. In 2009 Ring, Cicada released their second LP, History's End, in mp3 only, but plans for an eventual vinyl pressing still exist. Powell also plays guitar and sings in Heroes of the Kingdom. Former bassist Eric Abert now plays in The Life and Times. Guitarist Dave Goodman currently plays in Dibiase and bass in Ashes and Iron.
