Dance On Time is the title of debut album by the Amsterdam-based singer Pien Feith. The record will be released by V2 Records on February 21, 2011. Pien Feith’s career has been a rocky one: she made music with her own band since 2007, but also participated in the side projects Neonbelle and The Very Sexuals. She has navigated between sparse folk and harsh rock to a mixture of pop and electronica, similar to Bat for Lashes, Fever Ray and Glasser. Her debut record “Dance on Time” as well as her live shows make extensive use of keyboards, synths, samplers and bring about a a side of Feith that is both pop and eccentric. “I wanted to approach song writing differently. Like a rapper, I wanted to use the beat as my point of departure and then continue by collaging different layers." -Pien Feith This shift in her approach to writing allowed the multifaceted singer to employ a wider range of influences in her music. Together with her partner and producer Melvin Wevers she wrote and recorded numerous demos over the course of two years. These tracks were then dissected, cut up, and augmented by drummer and percussionist Pim Verlaek. Dance on Time is a beat-oriented record that flirts with dub, crunk, and tropicalia. The stream of enticing new songs that emerged daily from the crevices of the Internet have manifested themselves on this record.
